Gospel: The power of God unto salvation
Text: 2 Corinthians 11:23–26
Key Verse: Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (KJV)
The Gospel is the power of God over Satan and sin. The Gospel tells us that the power of sin has been broken.
The gospel says sin has no power over you, when you surrender your life to Christ. It sets you free from the power of sin and gives you power to live victoriously over sin.
Gospel tells you that it does not matter how bad you are but that God can transform you. The Gospel is the power of God to transform lives.
The gospel saves a sinner from his sins unto righteousness and holy living. Whenever we preach the gospel, it is the power of God being announced. We are declaring the power of God to save sinners unto salvation. There is power in the name of JESUS and it is the power of God to transform lives.
If the Gospel is the power of God, What does the Gospel do?
It provides salvation. The Greek word “Soteria” does not just mean salvation from sin, but also includes deliverance from all kinds of condition.
The Gospel provides salvation and salvation is only found in the gospel. The first thing that the gospel does is to save a sinner from sin (original sin and sin of commission/omission). The blood of Jesus is powerful enough to cleanse us from all sins and deliver us.
The Gospel gives us visa to Heaven. The Gospel gives us certainty of hope of Heaven that when we die, we shall go to Heaven to spend eternity.
Who is the Gospel for?
Is the Gospel made for some group of people? The Gospel is for everyone and no one is excluded. It is both for the bad and good. Paul said the gospel is for everyone – for the Jews and Greeks/Gentiles.
The Jews are those who seem religious. Don’t forget that Abraham had covenant with God that the Jews are enjoying till date.
Notwithstanding that, Paul is saying the Jews need the gospel to be saved from their sins. It is good that you go to church, but it does not make you a Christian. You need the gospel to save you from sin.
The gospel is for the Jews, who think that they know Christ, but they still need Christ though they are the covenant people.
The Gospel is also for gentiles, those who don’t seem religious. Covenant people/non-covenant people and bad/good people all need the gospel. Both those who seem good and those who seem bad, all need the gospel.
What must everyone do to receive the gospel since salvation is free?
If you must receive the “Gospel”, you must believe. It doesn’t say you have to be nice or anything else, but just believe. What must you believe? Believe in the finished work of Christ. There is nothing more you can add. You must believe that every work needed for your salvation has been done by Christ. It is a free gift of God, so you can’t add to what Christ Has done for you. He finished it, Christ Has done it all. You need not do it yourself.
It is just like giving ride to a woman with a load and she enters the car still carrying her load on her head. You ask her why? She says having given her ride, she does not need to burden you with the load.
You must receive Jesus as your Lord and Personal Saviour. You have to receive Jesus personally and not corporately.
Today’s Nugget: Gospel is both for the Jews and Gentiles
